AFTERNOON ACTIVITIES AND EXCURSIONS

In the afternoons and evenings, there will be either seminars/lectures on history and culture of the Czech Republic or open discussions, Czech film projections, sport activities and visits to places of local interest (e.g. Pilsner brewery, museum, galleries etc). Several evenings will be reserved for international gatherings, where students will have the opportunity to meet both Czech and other international participants who take foreign language courses at the Summer School. Part of the program are also excursions. Sightseeing bus excursions will be held on Wednesday afternoons and on Sundays (all day excursions). Please remember to fill in your application to reserve your place in the preferred excursions. After submission of your application you can rebook the trips or make any changes by e-mail to:  mcharlam@rek.zcu.cz

PILSEN TASTING TOUR
Date: Sunday, July 8th, 2018 from 2.00 p.m. until 7.30 p.m.

Come and taste the most interesting sights of Pilsen: the Great Synagogue, J.K.Tyl Theatre, New Emental Cheese“ Theater, Republic square, well-known parks, West Bohemian museums, Theatrum Mundi, lookout, Brewery Museum and famous Pilsner Urquell pubs.

From 4:30pm we will continue in tasting tour in the Pilsen Urquell Brewery.

PRAGUE

What is Prague? Memorial to the Victims of Communism, Petřín Cable Car + Petřín Tower, Holy Infant Jesus of Prague, Lennon Wall, Prague Castle, following the Royal Route via the Lesser Quarter with tightest street in the world, Charles Bridge, Old Town Square & astronomical clock, the Powder Tower, the Municipal House, Týn Court, Ungelt, the interior of the Týn Church. These are only a few of the impressive places in Prague.

We will walk around Mozart´s most popular Estate Theater and the oldest university in  Central Europe Charles (not Hall) University, jump into the archaeological sites of Palladium shopping mall…

WILD WEST BOHEMIAN MOUNTAIN EXPEDITION

Have you already met wolves in nature? Did you try to make glass yourself? No, it doesn´t matter. You will experience it and more whole day, at wild west Bohemian Mountain expedition.

We will start our morning in the middle of the Bohemian Forest in a small family glass factory. You will try to make own glass, watch the glass history in the mountains and check the new opened glassworks. After that we will have a break in the capital of Bohemian gold fewer! We will follow the wild glacial river to the next Czech rarity – industrial architecture of the water plant station. You will touch new and old water turbines and you can also swim in the cold mountain river.

Following the wild river with huge glacial boulders, we will reach the wolf pack run. Don´t be afraid: although these wolves are wild, they are fed and full…mostly.

AFTERNOON TRIPS:

STŘÍBRO: CITY OF SILVER MINES: WW II BUNKERS AND “CHARLES BRIDGE II”

Have you ever been in a city of silver? Have you been ridden a fast the mining train into the middle of a  silver mountain? If not, come with us and experience real silver fever!

First, we will see an architectural rarity – the second tower bridge in the Czech Republic (there is only one other in Prague – Charles bridge). We will follow the river and explore a few mining works. We will spot a few fabled WW II bunkers. We will visit the Silver Mining Museum, where you will see a great exposition of mining machines, and we will take a mountain train ride into the center of the silver mountain!We will take a sightseeing walk around the town and the terrace gardens of the former Franciscan Monastery, recently opened to the public. You will have about  an hour of free time. You have to be there

PROHIBITED BRDY AREA

This trip is taken at one´s own risk.

We will tour the previously prohibited Czech military area known as Brdy, which became open to the public only last year. This place is so special that the US army wanted to build a huge radar installation here  and anti-Russian shelter. This was one of the most guarded places in Czechoslovakia, with nuclear war heads and millions of tons of armor plates.

On the way back, we will stop at one of the first Buddhist temples in the Czech Republic. Finally, at the end of our trip, we will visit the former Jewish Town of Spálené poříří, with its Renaissance chateaus, Jewish cemetery, huge  granary and tavern.
